Frequently Asked QuestionsHome : About ProEdit : Frequently Asked Questions What services do you provide?ProEdit is in the technical communication business. We provide both project services and staffing services. Our project services are:
We are also a staffing agency specializing in temporary, permanent, and temp-to-perm placement of the best technical communication talent in the industry. How do you provide project services? One of ProEdit's project managers will work with you to design a custom solution for your technical communication needs. We will provide you with a written proposal in which all of the details (approach, cost, schedule, and assumptions) are clearly spelled out. ProEdit will manage the project from start to finish, on time and under budget. We have mature methodologies that we have been refining since 1992 to ensure that you are pleased with the results. How do you provide staffing services? An experienced technical recruiter will discuss the position's requirements with you. We use our "secret weapon"—the industry's largest skills database—to identify the perfect candidate for the job. Our skills database contains information on more than 47,000 US-based technical communicators. We sift through the résumés of hundreds of applicants and select only the best of the bunch for your review. We check references and samples, and arrange interviews for you to meet candidates in person or over the telephone. We handle all salary negotiations and are sure to follow up after your new person starts to make sure they are doing a great job. Where are you located?ProEdit's offices are located in Cumming, GA, a suburb of Atlanta. However, we have technical communicators working throughout the United States, both at our clients' offices and from their homes. How long have you been in business?ProEdit was founded in 1992. Who are some of your clients?ProEdit has more than 1,200 clients. Some of our clients you may be familiar with: IBM, 3Com, Honda, Wal-Mart, Coca-Cola, HP, Nortel, Ericsson, Siemens, and Texaco. We have completed projects for such government entities as the U.S. Department of the Treasury, U.S. State Department, and the U.S. Court of Appeals. We also have many smaller clients that you probably have not yet heard of: LABLynx, Digital Mandate, Parlux, and Rodgers Builders. Large or small, they are all special to us! Which industries do you work in?Our clients are in many diverse industries in the public and private sectors, such as wireless telecommunications, software development, farm equipment manufacturing, financial services, law enforcement, retail merchandising, and healthcare services. We have produced manuals about everything from how to program the most complex computer systems imaginable to how to operate a chicken processing plant! Our technical communicators can come up to speed quickly on just about any technology. When the project calls for someone with specific industry knowledge, our Staffing Services Division can find the right person for the job on a moment's notice. How are you different from your competitors?First, we are bigger. ProEdit is the largest technical communication company in the United States. Most of our competitors are "Mom and Pop" shops that could potentially leave a client in a tight spot if a person gets sick or goes on vacation. ProEdit has the ability to handle just about any size project. We have managed projects as large as those requiring 30 people and lasting several years, and projects as small as a quarter of an hour of a single person's time per month. Second, we aren't a staffing company that does technical writing on the side. We are a technical writing company that also serves as a staffing agency. We only place technical communicators. That's a huge difference from most of our competitors. We are practitioners and industry experts, not headhunters. Third, our attitude toward everything we do is different. We have a customer-first mindset and love new challenges. We have time-tested methodologies that we apply consistently to every project to help prevent us from making mistakes. However, if we make a mistake, we'll make it right and we'll put new processes in place to keep it from happening again. Our bottom line is that we treat our clients and employees like we would want to be treated. Can you tell me about ProEdit's leadership?ProEdit's owner and President, Doug Davis, founded the company in 1992 and has been at the helm ever since. Doug has thirty-plus years of technical writing and documentation management experience. He has managed projects with more than 30 technical writers and editors involved, and with project budgets exceeding $3 million. Doug is actively involved in day-to-day project management and business development at ProEdit. Doug's knowledge of technical communication management is highly regarded.
